Kandy Royal Botanical Garden

 

The tour of the famous city of Kandy starts off with the Royal Botanical Gardens, which is located in the peaceful suburbs of Peradeniya. Spread over 147 acres this beautiful garden is home to 4000 species of plants which includes orchids, spices, medicinal plants and palm trees which are spread all over the whole garden. The first destination will certainly give you a wonderful experience as to what Kandy has to offer!

 

 

Bahiravokanda Vihara Buddha Statue

 

Sri Lanka is a prominent country for its buddhist culture, among many other cultures hence to give you a proper experience of the culture, we will head to the Bahiravokanda Vihara Buddha statue. This statue is located in the heart of Kandy, overlooking the vibrant city. One of the tallest statues of Buddha in the Island, this statue showcases Lord Buddha in a seated meditative posture. You will be able to climb to the top of the statue via a staircase, and also catch a glimpse of the wonderful skyline of Kandy.

 

 

Temple of the Tooth Relic 

 

The Temple of the Tooth, named after the only surviving relic of Buddha is one of the main landmarks within the city of Kandy. The Temple stands next to the Kandy lake in a calm and picturesque manner and is renowned as a sacred location in the heart of Kandy. Daily ritual worship services are conducted by Monks in the inner chamber of the Temple of Tooth three times a day; at dawn, at noon and at sundown. On Wednesdays, a symbolic bathing of the Sacred Relic is held in the Temple of Tooth with an herbal preparation made from scented water and fragrant flowers, called Nanumura Mangallaya.

 

 

Witness the colorful Kandyan Dance 

 

The Kandyan dance is one of the many colourful artworks which were originated within the country of Sri Lanka. Native to the City of Kandy also known as “Udarata”, Kandyan dancing consists of Ves dancers, who engage in the beautiful artistry of dancing in a unique manner, creating their own music through drums and other instruments. The choreography consists of many acrobatic moves which the dancers perform while staying true to their roots.

 

 

Kandy Lake – Take a cool walk around Kandy Lake

 

With the evening breeze and as the sun begins to set for the day, a peaceful walk around the Kandy lake will just add the finishing touches to an eventful day in the Kandy city. This walk will help you unwind, surrounded by the calming lake while you witness the beauty of this sacred city!
